Owen Christian, 12,  and Izzy Molinaro, 11, placed first and second in the ESU Jianna V. Bolk Martin Luther King Jr. art contest. 

They will be receiving awards at the annual MLK Celebration Breakfast on Jan. 15th. The breakfast will be held at Terraview at Stroudsmoor Country Inn at 8 a.m.

Both pieces will be on display for all to see as well as countless entries from Art 3, Art 4, and AP art students at the Madelon Powers Gallery.

Brown Successfully Enacts Mental Health Study

HARRISBURG – Sen. Rosemary Brown (R-40) successfully advocated and strengthened language in House Bill 1300 to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study on Pennsylvania’s 988 suicide and crisis hotline.

The initiative was prompted by Brown’s mental health caucus and conversations with Fe and Gareth Hall, Brown’s constituents. The Halls unfortunately lost their son – Christian Hall – to a mental health crisis on Dec. 30, 2020.

Returning passenger rail services to Northeastern Pennsylvania has been a priority of Congressman Cartwright since first joining Congress, and on Friday, December 8 he announced that our rail project has qualified for federal funds.

On Nov. 30, 2023, 35 students were awarded Most Improved for the first marking period. The award included a certificate from the teacher it was from plus, Mr. Larthey handed out a special Mountaineers pencil and one free personal dress down for any day of the week. These awards are given out each marking period, so we all have more opportunities. Keep improving, SJHS!

SCRANTON – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Walter Kenneth Parfaite, age 35, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 72 months’ imprisonment by U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion for possessing with intent to distribute 5 grams and more of methamphetamine.

Stroudsburg is the only town in Pennsylvania that is dissected by Interstate 80. The highway literally runs through the center of town, cutting Stroudsburg and South Stroudsburg in two.
