TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More than $8,000 worth of unclaimed property has been returned to Tunkhannock Township.

Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, Senator Rosemary Brown, Representative Jack Rader and Tunkhannock Township Vice-Chairman Kevin Wieand made the announcement Wednesday that the $8,360 was reported to the Treasury as an insurance premium refund from 2019.

"Every recovered dollar is a win for our local taxpayers. These are funds that can now be used to support important township services, ease local budget pressures, and ultimately benefit the residents. I appreciate the continued efforts by the Treasury Department to ensure that unclaimed property is returned, and I encourage other municipalities and individuals to explore what might be waiting for them as well," said Senator Brown.

Township officials will determine how the funds are spent.
