Brigitte Meyer recently posted on her Facebook account: "If you've run into me during this campaign at all, you have probably heard me talk about data centers as the “next big thing” I expect to hit the Poconos, like the warehouse boom of the last several years.

Well, here we are. On May 19, Pocono Manor Investors, owner of the 193-acre parcel bordered by Kalahari and I-380, submitted a proposed zoning ordinance amendment that would allow for the development of data centers on their property. Data centers are typically large, warehouse-like buildings that house the digital infrastructure like computer servers that power our online lives. While data centers do not generate the traffic impacts of warehouses/distribution centers, there are other concerns that must be appropriately addressed by local zoning, such as noise, water usage, and the conversion of large swaths of forested land to buildings and parking lots.

This Thursday, June 5, at 6:30 pm, the Tobyhanna Township Planning Commission will meet at the township building to consider the proposed amendment and determine whether to recommend it to the Board of Supervisors. Come out to join the discussion!"
