(WBRE/WYOU) — The attorney general announced a lawsuit against a Monroe-County-based home improvement contractor who failed to complete jobs, among other offenses.
Jeffrey Romansky, of Jeff Romansky Construction, is alleged to have violated the Pennsylvania Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act (HICPA) after he performed subpar work or failed to complete jobs and required illegal down payments.
Several customers filed complaints claiming that Romansky's work was not completed or was "substandard."
The AG's office noted that one consumer paid $18,500 upfront for deck work, and eventually had to hire other contractors to repair and complete the job that Romansky did not finish.
The lawsuit states that Romansky’s contracts did not include necessary information, like a notice of cancellation, the approximate start and completion dates, and insurance information for the company.
Roofing firm fined $467K for reported safety violationsThe AG says Romansky also did not disclose criminal convictions, which is required to register as a contractor with the Office of the Attorney General.
"This contractor failed to include his history of theft convictions when he registered with our office, information that consumers should have known before signing contracts. He deliberately withheld that information, then performed subpar work for consumers who paid significant sums," Attorney General Sunday stated.
The Office of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection warned Romansky that if he did not disclose that he pleaded guilty to three counts of theft, his registration under HICPA to be a contractor would be suspended, which happened in March 2022.
