From the Poconos and Beyond: Our Favorite PA Places to Explore, Eat, & Enjoy

There is something special about Pennsylvania- the kind of place where winding mountain roads lead to hidden waterfalls, where small towns serve some delicious food, and where every turn feels a little like home. That’s why we love our partnership with VisitPA!

Here at Pocono Raceway, we don’t just work in the Poconos- we live it, love it, and explore every chance we get.  From favorite hiking spots and go-to restaurants to hometowns from east to west of PA, we’re sharing the places across PA that makes us smile, fuel our adventures, and keep us coming back for more. Check out some of our staff favorite PA spots.

After you read through our answers be sure to visit VISITPA.COM and POCONOMOUNTAINS.COM to learn more about these places and more!

Where We Call Home

Our team comes from across the Keystone State- from right here in the Poconos to towns like Lehighton, Effort, Weatherly, and Stroudsburg.  Some of us come from a bit farther out in places like Scranton, Philadelphia, and beyond- but wherever we come from, our love for Pennsylvania runs strong.

Food Worth the Drive

You can never go wrong with the food scene in Pennsylvania. Local favorites include the irresistible Gilder’s Jubilee Restaurant in the Pocono Pines, juicy burgers from Willy’s in Sciota, and the crave-worthy Mexican eats at Compañeros in Jim Thorpe.  Want a caffeine fix? Stop by Café Duet in Stroudsburg or grab and iced coffee and breakfast sandwich from Wawa, which is always a PA favorite.

Sip & Savor: Pennsylvania’s Best Wineries and Breweries

When it’s time to kick back and savor the moment, Pennsylvania’s wineries and breweries deliver unforgettable experiences.  From the vineyards of Honey Hole Winery in Drums to the vibrant craft beer hub of Weyerbacher Brewing Company in Easton, there’s a perfect pour for every taste.  Whether you’re enjoying unique Croatian varietals at a cozy family-run winery or inventive craft beers with names, PA’s beverage scene is bursting with flavor.  Don’t miss local favorites like Eagles Rest Cellars in Stroudsburg or Blue Ridge Winery in Saylorsburg, where great drinks come with stunning views.  Cheers to discovering Pennsylvania’s finest, one glass at a time!

Favorite Spots to Kick Back

When it’s time to unwind, we head outdoors—and Pennsylvania makes it easy. With wide open spaces, peaceful lakes, and trailheads nearby, there’s always a new way to relax or explore. Beltzville and Tobyhanna State Parks are top picks, offering scenic hikes, swimming areas, kayak-friendly waters, and shady picnic spots—perfect for a full day offline.

Jim Thorpe is another must-see. With its historic downtown, cozy coffee shops, and shops full of local finds, it’s great for a relaxing day trip. Plus, the scenic train rides through the mountains make you feel like you’re right in the heart of nature.

For more adrenaline, Lehigh Gorge State Park offers whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and ziplining—there’s no shortage of adventure. Or go lowkey with fishing, leaf-peeping, or watching a sunset over the ridges. In Pennsylvania, nature always puts on a show—you just have to show up.

Why We Love the Poconos

When it comes to the Pocono Mountains, our team’s go-to spots really capture the region’s adventurous spirit and natural beauty. From the peaceful shores of Lake Wallenpaupack to the scenic trails of Hickory Run State Park these places offer the perfect escape from the everyday hustle.  Whether its hiking, kayaking, or simply soaking in the breathtaking mountain views, the Poconos have something for everyone.  Small towns like Jim Thorpe add charm with their historic streets and small shops, while outdoor thrills like whitewater rafting on the Lehigh Gorge keep the adrenaline pumping.  It’s no wonder these spots are favorites- they truly showcase everything that makes the Poconos a must-visit destination.
