PAWC Pine Hill Well PFAS/Mn Treatment Improvements Categorical Exclusion Request Notice is hereby given that Pennsylvania American Water Company (PAWC) is planning to perform PFAS treatment improvements at the Pine Hill well station, located near the intersection of Winona Road and Edgewood Road in Mt. Pocono, PA. The primary driver of the Pine Hill Well PFAS/Mn Treatment Improvements Project is to ensure compliance with current and future US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) for PFAS and PFOA. This Project's scope includes the demolition of the existing wellhouse and construction of a new treatment facility at the existing Summit Point well station, as well as disposal of process wastewater, and other related work. The new treatment facility will include GAC adsorbers for the removal of PFAS, and green sand filters will be added to comply with secondary MCLs associated with iron and manganese. Further chemical feed system improvements to help meet these requirements include sodium hypochlorite for oxidation and disinfection, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, and polymer to assist with manganese and iron settling in the backwash waste tank, and zinc orthophosphate for corrosion control. No new customers will be added as a result of this project. PAWC is applying for PENNVEST funding for this project and received notice that the project appears to be eligible for a categorical exclusion from the State Environmental Review Process. PAWC does not anticipate significant impact on user fees as a result of this project.
