On behalf of Paradise Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has completed preliminary plans to replace the open grate bridge carrying Red Rock Road over Paradise Creek.
The horizontal alignment and vertical profile will not change but the bridge will be widened slightly to accommodate pedestrians and a larger water table. Signs and safety features will be upgraded. A driveway in proximity to the bridge will be relocated slightly to allow for upgraded safety features and improve sight distance. The downstream streambank will be fortified to prevent further erosion and sediment deposition will be removed from the stream. Four properties will be impacted by the project. No permanent right-of-way acquisition is anticipated but permanent slope easements and approximately 9,000 square feet of temporary construction easement will be required. Three overhead utility poles will require relocation and no underground facilities are present.
Traffic will be detoured while the bridge is under construction but local access will be maintained for all properties along Red Rock Road. Boaters will be advised not to approach the construction site via the creek.
Construction is anticipated to start in late 2027 and continue through 2028. If you would like more information concerning this project and / or would like to provide your input please consider visiting the PennDOT District 5 website. The site will be available beginning June 2 and the comment period will close June 29.
