Tobyhanna Township approved a short-term rental ordinance in 2022. A revision to the ordinance was adopted in February of 2024 that changed the occupancy limit to 2 per bedroom + 2 and reduced fines for violations to be within state guidelines. Tobyhanna Township recently imposed a cap on the number of short term rentals licenses and due to the uncertainties surrounding license issuance, caution is advised when purchasing in Tobyhanna Township. According to Pennsylvania State Police, on July 5 troopers pulled over a car for code violations on Interstate 80 East in Tobyhanna Township.
Police say the driver was suspected to be under the influence and a search warrant was issued. During the search, troopers stated they found and seized 13 improvised explosive devices inside of the suspect's car.
