Last year we took in over 200 raccoon kits for care, many of who were orphaned because their mom made her home in someone’s attic, and pest control dispatched her (as we believe they are required to do by statute when a rabies vector species is found inside someone’s home). Saying goodbye to more than 40 year old Pocono Township sign

POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's time to say goodbye to a sign of the times. A historical welcome sign in the Poconos is seeing its final days, something many in the area hate to see go. The Pocono Township Welcome Sign has stood tall for more than 40 years, but after the weekend, the historical landmark will no longer exist. The sign in Tannersville is hard to miss, but soon it will be very missed. The cherished landmark located at Routes 715 and 611 will be permanently removed on Monday. "100% going to miss it," said Tannersville resident Tucker Reinhardt. Reinhardt passes the sign in his hometown almost every day. On Saturday, he and his girlfriend stopped to take one last photo in front of it.

Skinners Falls Bridge May Be Demolished

Completed in 1902 with an original life-expectancy of 70 years, the Skinners Falls Bridge is in such a state of disrepair PennDOT officials say it's too dangerous to repair and may be demolished. Former congressman finds new role to help Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Former congressman Matt Cartwright is taking on a new role to keep the wheels turning on a long-awaited project, restoring passenger rail service between Scranton and New York City. Matt Cartwright was unanimously appointed by the Lackawanna County Commissioners to serve on the Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority Board through 2029. During his six terms in Congress, Matt Cartwright was a vocal advocate for restoring the passenger rail in NEPA. He played a key role in securing federal funding for the project,now as a board member, he will continue that work to bring the railway back. Deadly house fire under investigation "Just taking a seat on that board is a natural extension to the work I've been doing for over 12 years," said Cartwright.

Victim identified after allegedly being shot by neighbor

BANKS TWP., CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police report a man was arrested after he fired a gunshot in his home into the residence next door killing his neighbor. The Monroe County Coroner states that 69-year-old Gerald Pogzeba was pronounced dead Friday afternoon after being shot by his neighbor 25-year-old Dylan Eroh. According to Pennsylvania State Police, on January 23 troopers were called to Berwick Street in Banks Township for a report of a man's death around 12:40 p.m. Through further investigation, police say the suspect, 25-year-old Dylan Eroh, fired a shotgun through the wall of his row home, and into the house of his next-door neighbor, killing Pogzeba.
