Brown’s Legislation to Bolster EMS and Fire Funding Flexibility Becomes Law
I’m pleased to share that my legislative package to expand funding flexibility for emergency medical services (EMS) and fire departments has officially been signed into law. These new laws update Pennsylvania’s municipal codes to help address critical financial challenges in EMS and fire staffing.
This means local governments can now allocate funds more effectively—particularly for staffing—without raising taxes. This flexibility is essential as our first responders work to meet the growing needs of our communities.

Monroe County man killed in I-81 crash
LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- State Police released new details Friday about the fatal four-vehicle crash that closed a stretch of I-81 by the Dauphin and Lebanon County line on Thursday morning.
James Stokes, 27, of Cresco, was killed in the crash that happened before 2:30 a.m. on I-81 north in East Hanover Township by Mile Marker 84.8, State Police at Jonestown said in a release.
A tractor-trailer crashed into the back of another one, causing the first tractor-trailer to jackknife. Then a vehicle that Stokes was a passenger in crashed into the back of the second tractor-trailer, which then caused that to move into the other lane where a fourth vehicle hit it and caught fire.
Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other people were taken to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation, State Police say.

Meet Pickles
Hi, my name is Pickles, and I am 6 years old. I love to go on walks and I love getting treats.
I’m such a goofball and I’m friendly with people, though I´m a little more selective with other dogs. Whenever I go on walks, I’m better on a leash.
I prefer to be the only pet in a household because I am not entirely comfortable around other pets, and I would love a fenced yard.
You can help by sharing Pickles’ feature on your own social media page.
Age: 6 years old
Gender: Male
How long has he been there? 3 years as of December of 2021

Blue Mountain brush fire claims 600 acres
On Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, a brush fire started on Blue Mountain. The fire quickly spread due to high winds and weeks without rain made it almost impossible to stop.
Crews from multiple counties including Leigh, Carbon, Northampton, and Monroe County continued to battle the blaze for nearly two weeks. The fire, originally starting as a small brush fire, grew to 600 acres. The PA State Fire Commissioner’s office confirms that the Blue Mountain wildfire is 100 percent contained at this time.
This fire started while Pennyslyvannia was and still is under a burn ban, meaning all outdoor fire pits, bonfires, and campfires are not allowed until the state lifts the ban. The burn ban was initiated by severe drought and strong winds throughout October and November due to the high risk of one spark or ember causing a blaze to quickly escalate to a wildfire.
