Pocono Mountains Magazine Premiere | November 2024

This month on Pocono Mountains Magazine...join us for a musical journey through the Poconos as we highlight the region's rich tapestry of talented artists featured on Pocono Showcase. Headlining the episode is Christian Porter from Stroudsburg, a seasoned musician who took the stage on "The Voice" in 2012 and continues to enchant audiences at venues like The Sherman Theater. Sol Katana from East Stroudsburg blends Latin and American music into a genre he calls "Latin Space Funk," while Nancy and Spencer Reed share their fascinating story from meeting in NYC in the 1970s to settling in the Poconos and playing alongside jazz icons at the Deer Head Inn.

Disposal of political flyers being investigated by USPS

BRODHEADSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A federal investigation is underway into political flyers dumped into the trash in Monroe County. "It was surprising because..one, she shouldn't be dumping here, and two, she had a postal uniform on and postal hat," said Blue Line Security Guard Mike. Mike is a security guard at the Shop Rite Plaza in Brodheadsville, Monroe County. He says the mail was dumped last week into this trash can at the end of the parking lot. "I observed the car pull up here, open its trunk, and they weren't unloading groceries. I was looking through binoculars seeing what they were doing and she took something from the back of the trunk and went over and put it in the trash can over here," Mike explained. The woman dumped several bins, similar to US Postal Service bins, into the trash can.

Squirrel takes down SHS power

On Monday afternoon, during the fifth period, the power cut out in SHS. The power outage didn’t last longer than a minute before it quickly turned back on. Though students were left confused and hoping for an early dismissal, the power was not disrupted the rest of the day. The cause of this blackout was revealed only a period later. A squirrel had chewed through an electrical wire. According to  Principal Sodl’s announcement, the hungry squirrel with an acute taste for danger had unfortunately met his “demise.” “I’m really hoping it’s not Nutty Buddy, our art department squirrel who eats from the dumpster outside room F10,” expressed art teacher, Sarah Cepin, “He was in the musical playbill”

Comeback complete: Stroudsburg clinches playoff berth

Friday night had magic in the air for the Mountaineers. They completed a 21-point comeback to defeat Pleasant Valley, 35-21. Stroudsburg got out of the gates slowly, falling behind early by three possessions. Down 21 at half, the Mountaineers came out firing in the second half. In the locker room at halftime, Coach Jim Miller stated, “We weren’t coming out in the first half playing football…we had to crank it up a little.” When Center Emanuel Laboy, ’25, said, “The first drive when we came out in the second half, we punched them, we moved them unlike we did in the first half.” Crank it up they did. In a 3-minute span, Stroudsburg scored touchdowns from WR Ethan Dudsak, ’25, WR Kamari Coleman, ’25, and RB Jaylin Rieara, ’25. Stroudsburg also got key turnovers from the defense, with Brian Burns recovering a fumble and the Mountaineers intercepting a pass in that span.
