The harmful effects of Tiktok on students
To encourage students to become aware of how much time they use apps on their phones, The Mountaineer conducted a small survey in October at Stroudsburg Junior High School. According to this census, 73 percent of students spend approximately 2 hours or more on their phones daily. The app that 50 percent of students use most frequently is TikTok.
TikTok is a social media app that allows people to view and create bite-sized videos. Users scroll on the “For You Page” feed that is specifically curated to their interests. This app has taken the world by storm, with approximately 1 billion users globally.
Freshman Jiles Hernandez states, “Tiktok is known to be addictive; after one Tiktok you always want to see the next.”

Rumored Skittles ban takes media by storm
We’ve all heard Skittle’s slogan, “Taste the Rainbow”, but a recent law passed in California seems to threaten these colorful candies.
Named The California Food Safety Act, but recently dubbed “The Skittles Ban”, California’s new law bans food additives found commonly in candies and sodas. The nickname comes from an earlier draft of the bill that banned titanium dioxide which is found in the popular candy.
However, the latest bill revisions have removed titanium dioxide from the banned list.
So what does this mean for the future of Skittles? In short– nothing.
Skittles will not be affected by this act at all. The rumor began with miscommunications online and though it spread fast, it is nothing but false news.
