November School Board Update
The November Board meeting has shown us numerous plans the district has to improve our athletic department. First, there is the new weight room being implemented, which is going to be finished no later than January 1, 2025. This new weight room will be fully renovated from where it was before, and is planned to be on par with other weight rooms at various colleges. In total, this comes to $500,000 and will hopefully put on teams on the same level as the various valley schools, and especially our rival, East Stroudsburg South. In addition to the weight room, we will be purchasing new scoreboards, which will be fully digital. They will be the same type as the ones that schools like Whitehall and Easton have (Check https://digitalscoreboards.net/ for more information).
Behind the hoodie ban
For many students, the hoodie is a wardrobe essential to help keep everyone warm and cozy during the chilly months of winter. However, for Stroudsburg High School, it’s a part of dress code rules and regulations focused on promoting safety and identification. Stroudsburg adopted a policy banning hoodies on school grounds. While some parents view the ban as necessary to maintain order, students question its fairness and the impact on their self-expression. This policy is a daily battle for teachers and administration, but it’s especially a hot topic of debate every dress-down day. Is it still necessary?
After a brief meeting with the SHS Principal Mr. Jeffery Sodl, he explained, “The primary reason that hoodies are not allowed in school is actually a safety issue because there have been multiple situations in the past when we didn’t have the type of camera system that we do now.”

Boys’ Basketball disappoints in home opener
Last night, Stroudsburg lost their home opener to Pocono Mountain East. The final score was, 73-42, on a night where the Mountaineers were not able to get anything to go right for them.
Early in the first quarter, Stroudsburg was neck and neck with East, with Alex Pacitti, ‘25, knocking down two three-pointers to give Stroudsburg one-point deficit. This would be the closest the game would be at any point as East ended the quarter on a 5-0 run.
The two teams battled into the end of the first half as Stroudsburg went into the locker trailing by eight.
East then started to pull away in the third quarter outscoring Stroudsburg 25-9.
Center Parker Scoz, ’25, dominated Stroudsburg all night. The 6’6″, 17-year-old had his way with the Mountaineers scoring 25 points. Scoz added salt to the wound, knocking down two fourth quarter threes. Stroudsburg was outmatched by his size in the paint all night long.
