EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Schools across the nation are facing serious teacher shortages, but one district in our area is bucking the trend. The East Stroudsburg Area School District is adding 60 new teachers to classrooms this year. These teachers are getting a few lessons of their own before their students head back to class at the East Stroudsburg School Area District's Annual Teacher Induction Ceremony. "It's an opportunity to try to give them the foundation, the skills, and the baseline that they'll need to continue to grow and be successful every day in the classroom," said Stephen Zall the Director of Human Resources at East Stroudsburg School District. The induction is comprised of different training sessions and exercises. This year the district is welcoming 60 new teachers to its schools. Many of the incoming teachers are just starting their careers.

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — According to the Stroud Area Regional Police Department (SARPD) a Stroud Township man has been arrested after he sexually assaulted a child and allegedly produced and distributed child pornography. SARPD says on Friday, August 11, officers received information from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), regarding the sexual abuse of a child, and the production and distribution of child pornography at a home in Stroud Township, Monroe County. Police say, based on information learned from an ongoing investigation, a search warrant was executed at a home on Avenue A in Stroud Township.

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Now that it's mid-August, drivers are going to start seeing school buses back on the road. 28/22 News stopped by one school district in Monroe County that's spreading a message to drivers to be extra cautious or pay the price. East Stroudsburg area school district bus driver Charlene Bisbing has had the same morning routine for the last thirty years. She buckles up, turns on the engine, and hits the road. It's a job she loves but says it's become more dangerous due to reckless driving. "With the number of children that are coming into the district, the amount of cars on the road, distracted driving, people multitasking, they're driving on their cellphones, they have earbuds in, they're not paying attention," Bisbing says.

TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are searching for a man they say stole over $1,200 worth of clothing from a store at the Pocono Premium Outlets. According to the Pocono Township Police Department, on August 14 around 7:00 p.m., the man pictured below entered the Polo Ralph Lauren Outlet in Tannersville. Man wanted for alleged theft at the Pocono Outlets Police say while in the store the suspect concealed several clothing items totaling $1,211.34 and left the store without paying for them.

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man from Wilkes-Barre has been indicted for allegedly robbing a bank by the federal grand jury in Scranton. U.S. Marshals arrest York shooting suspect in Monroe County According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, 29-year-old Damen Drakeford allegedly robbed the M&T Bank located at 900 North Ninth Street in Stroud Township on July 14. An investigation was conducted by the Stroud Area Reginal Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force which resulted in the charges against Drakeford.

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force along with Pennsylvania State Police, arrested the York shooting suspect Tuesday afternoon in Monroe County. According to investigators, 34-year-old Kenell Chisholm, from York, wanted by the York Police Department for attempted homicide was arrested in the 400 block of Scotrun Avenue, Scotrun. On December 9, 2022, the York City Police Department investigated an incident involving multiple shots fired on the 400 block of E. Philadelphia Street. Three people were shot in this incident, including a 3-year-old child, police said.

POCONO TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police were on the scene of a fugitive arrest in Monroe County. Tuesday afternoon, police responded to the 400 block of Scotrun Avenue in Scotrun to assist in the arrest a man they say had a felony warrant.

EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are charging a woman they say stole a credit card and used it to purchase multiple DoorDash orders. According to the Pocono Township Police Department, an officer was contacted by a victim who reported her credit card was illegally being used to make several purchases. The victim told police in May, she was with Michelle Henderson, 39, from East Stroudsburg, at her house when allegedly at some point Henderson took the victim's credit card to put it on her DoorDash account to order Wendy's.  The next day the victim saw the charge on her credit card and confronted Henderson about it. Investigators stated Henderson admitted to using the card information but didn't say how she got the information.
