LONG POND, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Racing kicked off Friday at Pocono Raceway starting with the Craftsman Truck Series. Alaina Losito is here with with a recap of Friday's race. Coming into the race, all eyes were on the reigning champion Corey Heim. Heim, the favorite for Friday's race, dominated last year. How to watch Pocono Raceway NASCAR races And just a couple weeks ago became the youngest driver to reach 15 career wins. But trouble with his tires later in the race caused Heim to fall behind. With about 15 laps to go, it was too much to overcome. So it was the 23-year-old Layne Riggs, son of former cup series standout, Scott Riggs. Layne led the final 20 laps en route to his win.

The Craftsman Truck Series race here at Pocono Raceway is currently underway. A pretty big crowd here on Friday and all eyes are on last year's winner Corey Heim. He absolutely dominated the race leading most of the laps. His most recent win came in Charlotte where he became the youngest driver ever to reach 15 career Truck Series wins. He seems to excel at this race as he came second to Kyle Busch in 2023. Busch has the most wins here with three and his team with eight. Heim spoke on being back in the Poconos why he loves racing at this track.

Race fans can bring their unused or outdated prescription drugs to the track, where they will be collected and safely destroyed at a later date.   Pennsylvania Attorney General's office and Pocono Raceway officials are teaming up for the drug collection effort. But now, thanks to partnerships in the Poconos and even our news station, part of NEPA will be spotlighted on the racetrack for all to see. At Pocono Raceway, the energy is electrifying as fans and drivers are getting ready for three series. The Craftsman Truck Series Friday, the Xfinity Series Saturday, and the big NASCAR Cup Series Sunday. Many people have their favorite driver they cheer on, but one car in Saturday's Xfinity Race is getting our region extra pumped. No. 99 decked out in Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau designs and even has our 28/22 news logo. The roar of an engine in Long Pond can only mean one thing. “NASCAR’s back in the Poconos, we’re kicking off summer!” said the president of the Pocono Raceway, Ben May.

Three students who graduated from East Stroudsburg University in May 2025 were recently commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army. A commissioning ceremony was held at the University of Scranton for ROTC graduates from area universities. The ESU students are Emma Lawson, a native of Milanville, Pa., who earned a bachelor’s degree in biology; Andrew Weaver, a native of Tamiment, Pa., who earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting; and Kyran Bryson, a native of Bronx, N.Y., who earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.
