On March 18, 2023 the victim, Steven Nitschke was found deceased in his Stroud Township apartment. The Stroud Area Regional Police Department along with the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney, Criminal Investigations Division, investigated and were able to trace back the source of the drugs.
The source was Edwin Burgos, a 39 year old co-worker of Steven’s. Burgos was arrested and charged by Detective Kim Lippincott in August of 2023 after investigators were able to obtain enough evidence showing that he delivered the deadly dose.
Olivia Kautz, a junior from Stroudsburg, Pa., is a first-generation college student who used to play “teacher” with her older sister.
Now, she is pursuing her passion for Early Childhood and Elementary Education at ESU.
Olivia is a shining example of how public higher education can help turn childhood dreams into reality.
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at East Stroudsburg University ended the 2023-2024 academic year by participating in conferences and community events.

After I graduate I see myself going to Penn State University to study more in Law and Criminal Justice to hopefully one day become a well-known lawyer.
Do you have any hobbies or activities you enjoy?
I enjoy walking around with my friends and being outside in general. It has a nice effect on a person’s mental state to just be outside.
Do you have a favorite sport? Do you play it too? Why do you like it?
I really enjoy volleyball. I play with my family here and there. I like it because it’s not that hard to learn and teach and it’s also something that brings people together.
What’s your favorite movie (or show)?
My favorite show at the moment is The Last of Us. I’ve watched the series over and over again and am very excited for the next part to come out.
EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU)— A man wanted on statutory sexual assault charges in Monroe County was arrested in New York over the weekend.
On May 11, the New York Police Department and the United States Marshalls say they arrested 62-year-old Devon Johnson, a man charged with 77 counts relating to involuntary sexual intercourse with a minor in Monroe County.
This comes nearly five months after officials issued a warrant for his arrest back in January.
Johnson is facing the following charges:
