Summer thrills at Camelback's Mountain Adventures

TANNERSVILLE, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — How does flying over the treetops down a 4,000-foot zipline sound? Or riding down the state’s only mountain coaster? These are the questions adrenaline-seekers ask themselves while at one resort in the Poconos. 28/22 News' “Daredevil” Sydney Kostus visited that very resort to help reopen a sky-high attraction. Zipping down from a platform 40 feet up in the air isn’t normally on the morning to-do list, but it’s necessary to help warm up Camelback’s Mountain Adventures tight rope course ahead of its official reopening Friday. “It’s the same course that our guests know and love from three years ago, it’s just been revamped. We’ve taken a look at trees, and you know, cut back trees and had an arborist come in and look at just different things in that field,” explained the director of public relations at Camelback Resort, Grace Griffaton.

PASSHE Sets 2025-26 Tuition Rate with Option to Reduce if State Funding Increases

The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) today approved tuition rates for the 2025-26 academic year and would roll back the rate if the state provides sufficient funding as part of the current state budget negotiations. Setting tuition now with the option to revisit the decision gives clarity to students who will start the semester next month and provides flexibility to state leaders as their budget negotiations continue. After seven consecutive years of frozen tuition, PASSHE universities remain the most affordable four-year option in Pennsylvania, even with in-state undergraduate tuition for the 2025-26 academic year increasing by $139 per semester to $3,997 per semester. Full-year tuition will increase by $278 to $7,994.

MOUNT POCONO, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The recent storms slamming our area have been impacting a number of community outdoor events. 28/22 News stopped by a summertime staple in the Poconos and has more on how the group behind it isn’t letting rain dampen the fun. The fun slide lights still shine bright, despite a foggy Tuesday morning in Mount Pocono. The ride is one of dozens, all part of the Pocono Mountain Carnival that kicked off Monday, but had a rainy start. "People still came out and had a good time. It was a decent crowd given the weather," said carnival chairman, and part of the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Company, Randy Altemose. Altemose tells 28/22 News that the annual event happens rain or shine, and they’re honoring Monday night's one-ticket ride promotion into day two. In its 99th year, he says a little weather doesn’t stop the generations of families taking part.

From experience and mentorship to the thrill of discovery, Mumma hopes to be an advocate to other students about the benefits undergraduate research can bring. “I have gotten so much out of doing research,” said Mumma, a rising sophomore from Willow Grove, Pa. “I think that some students perceive it as just an extension of teaching lab, an extension of what it is to keep learning in chemistry, and it is, but it’s also getting off of the path of learning because it’s the first time for most students that we don’t know where we’re going – we could find something amazing tomorrow.”
